La Folie

Located near the beach town of Melides on Portugal’s Alentejo coast, La Folie is a cylindrical architectural folly conceived as a place for gathering, retreat, and reflection on the landscape. Built as part of Christian Louboutin’s personal estate, the tower-like structure embraces its natural context with a raw material palette and sculptural presence. The interior is organized around a central hearth beneath an oculus that admits light from above, while integrated lighting animates the space with changing tones as day turns to night. Openings frame views of sky and water, reinforcing the connection between architecture and environment. Designed without a prescribed program, La Folie invites contemplation and social exchange, offering a poetic threshold between light, landscape, and use within its context on the Portuguese coast.
