For this former artist’s studio in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Marion Mailaender reinterprets a deeply historic Parisian interior with her signature balance of respect, intuition and playful modernity.
Once the studio of sculptor Arman, the apartment carries a powerful artistic legacy. Marion Mailaender preserves its 17th-century volumes, wood panelling, large windows and original spirit, while opening up new perspectives between the entrance, living room, kitchen and Arman’s sculptural staircase.
The project brings together restored heritage elements, reused materials and contemporary interventions. A blue terrazzo floor, bespoke joinery, Versailles parquet, 1970s-inspired carpeting and carefully selected furniture create a subtle dialogue between past and present.
With pieces by Frank Lloyd Wright, Jean Prouvé, Alvar Aalto, Gio Ponti, Mario Botta and Jean-Baptiste Fastrez, the interior avoids historical pastiche in favour of a layered and personal atmosphere. Through this project, Marion Mailaender turns a remarkable Parisian space into a family home where memory, art and contemporary design coexist with quiet boldness.
