Citrons et Huîtres

For Citrons et Huîtres in Paris, Marion Mailaender creates a poetic and immersive oyster bar rooted in the memory of Pigalle and the imagery of the sea.

Located on Boulevard Rochechouart, in the building that once housed Renoir’s last studio, the project draws on both artistic history and the atmosphere of a traditional neighbourhood fishmonger. A raw steel façade, floor-to-ceiling windows and an oyster-shaped bronze handle set the tone before entering a space imagined as an underwater scene.

Beneath a high blue vaulted ceiling, pixelated ceramic mosaics evoke waves breaking onto sand, while a pearly steel counter and coral-coloured stools bring a playful maritime presence. Cyanotype wall panels, created in collaboration with Thomas Mailaender, reinforce the aquarium-like atmosphere.

Through this project, Marion Mailaender transforms a simple seafood bar into a highly narrative interior, where popular Paris, artistic memory, humour and material experimentation come together with distinctive charm.
