Matsuri Courcelles

For Matsuri, Rudy Guénaire draws once again on Californian Japonisme, exploring the dialogue between Japanese Sukiya architecture and American modernism.

Beneath a steep ceiling inspired by California’s dramatic rooflines, the restaurant unfolds around a kaiten conceived as a true piece of Japanese architecture. A shōji-like grid conceals a shifting lighting system, recreating the softness of a setting sun, while stainless-steel panels, American cherry wood, bleached bamboo and dark-oak battens bring together modernity, warmth and precision.

References to Katsura, Frank Lloyd Wright, streamline design and the Eameses give the space its distinctive character: a luminous, horizontal interior where Japanese tradition meets the relaxed sophistication of California.
