Founded in Paris in 2021 by Antoine Geiger and August Hijlkema, Geiger & Hijlkema is an architecture and interior design studio working across private residences, hospitality and cultural projects.

Their practice begins with the careful reading of a place — its history, proportions, light, existing fabric and the lives it is meant to hold. Through two complementary viewpoints, the studio develops each project from its spatial structure to its furniture, objects and details.

Geiger & Hijlkema’s language is defined by the tension between mass and lightness, heritage and contemporary intervention, order and unexpectedness. They favour tactile materials, layered thresholds, framed views and bespoke elements, creating interiors that are precise, atmospheric and quietly distinctive.

Drawing on the French tradition of the ensemblier, the studio conceives architecture, furniture, objects and works of art as parts of a single composition. Its projects include the Académiciens’ Bookshop at the Institut de France, a suit and bespoke furniture for Le Bristol Paris, or a literary pavilion in Taormina, Sicily.

In 2024, the studio extended this approach through Rooom Service, a gallery and design platform founded with Arthur Boyer. Working between Paris and Morocco, Geiger & Hijlkema continues to explore a form of refinement rooted in attention, material presence and the character of those who inhabit a place.
