For 22 rue de Provence, Edgar Jayet draws on the site’s singular place in the history of Parisian decorative arts. Formerly home to Siegfried Bing’s Maison de l’Art Nouveau, the address becomes the starting point for a project that reconnects this forgotten heritage with the contemporary life of the city.
At its centre, a new Parisian passage links rue Chauchat and rue Peletier, bringing together historic fragments and contemporary interventions. Original grilles are reintroduced alongside newly designed elements, while the work of master craftsmen gives architectural details a renewed presence. The project establishes a dialogue between the memory of the site and the character of the surrounding business district, without seeking to reproduce the past.
For Edgar Jayet, the history of the building becomes a source of inspiration rather than a backdrop: a collection of details, traces and architectural references reinterpreted through a contemporary intervention. The former Maison de l’Art Nouveau is given a new chapter, where Parisian heritage meets the demands of contemporary business life in an architecture shaped by its history.
